THE outlook is sunny for Waterloo florist Corey Lewis.

He has recruited Salendine Nook-based meteorologist Paul Stevens to provide advice on temperature and weather conditions to get the best from his blooms.

Corey, who runs Inspirations at Wakefield Road, is following the lead of some of Britain's biggest retailers - who regularly consult the weather forecasters to help predict future demand for products.

Leading supermarket chains commission weather forecasts for individual stores to help gauge likely demand for items like ice cream and soft drinks, hot cereals, clothing and footwear.

Paul said: "I am delighted to support Corey.

"Flowers and plants are very sensitive to changes in weather conditions. Having access to good weather information can only help Corey maintain the quality of the flowers."

He added: "Customers' buying habits are greatly influenced by weather conditions.

"In dull weather many customers will buy very bright flowers to lift their mood.

"In spring, when temperatures edge above 16ºC flower sales explode as customers become confident that winter is over.

"Having good weather information will help Corey and his colleague Val McAllister make the best buying decisions.

"I will also supply weather forecasts for brides-to-be in the summer!"

Corey opened Inspirations in September and has reported a great response.

The shop sells plants bought from local markets and continental suppliers.

Customers can also have a coffee at the shop.

Corey is now designing a range of wreaths, garlands and table arrangements for the festive season - although Mr Stevens can't promise a white Christmas!
