A TALENTED steel sculptor has been tipped as a potential television celebrity.

Meltham man Michael Stott, who runs Steel Dreams Ltd, was the subject for Huddersfield University's third Enterprise Event.

Mr Stott, who set up the company with his wife Roz, answered questions about their unusual enterprise from Sunday Times business journalist David Sumner.

Then, they were quizzed by an expert panel on the future direction of their business.

Mr Stott set up Steel Dreams about three years ago after being made redundant from his job in engineering.

The business won plaudits at the Malvern Three Counties Show and Chelsea Flower Show.

Now it has annual sales of about £200,000 and boasts clients including Arsenal FC, Cunard, Heathrow Airport's Virgin Atlantic bar and the TGI Friday restaurant chain.

The expert panel included Cliff Burgin, group managing director of Dunlop-Hiflex Group and Brian Pettinger, business adviser for West Yorkshire Ventures.

It also included Susan Kenyon, who is managing director of Susankenyon Marketing Consultants and and Jeff Monks, of the Academy of Chief Executives.

Phil Williams, head of public relations at the university, said: "All were agreed on the `star quality' of Michael himself.

"A show of hands indicated that the panel and audience unanimously considered him a potential TV celebrity!"

Said Mr Williams: "This was the third of our case study Enterprise Events - and probably the best so far.

"They are terrific events as they bring together enterprising local businesses, marketing people from a whole range of organisations, students, academics and budding entrepreneurs."

The event was organised by Nadio Granata, a senior lecturer at the university and managing director of PNG Marketing, with sponsorship from the regional branch of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
