THREE leaders of a popular playgroup are leaving after more than 80 years service between them.
Toddlers and staff at the St James’ Playgroup in Gledholt said goodbye to Margaret Preston, Carole Kenny and Vicky Horsfield.
All three women are leaving to retire, go travelling and start a nursing career respectively.
Janette Willetts, playgroup manager, said: “We’ll be sorry to see them go. There have been quite a few tears.
“The staff, committee, children and parents all said goodbye and gave them cards and gifts.”
Margaret Preston started the playgroup in 1966 when it was based at St James’s Church.
The 79-year-old has seen it grow and has enjoyed watching the children grow up.
Many of them went on to become parents themselves and took their own children to the playgroup.
Mrs Willetts said: “Margaret had a couple of years break and then returned, being part of the committee and helping the staff with the children’s snack time.
“At the tender age of 79 she is now retiring and will be greatly missed by all.”
Carole Kenny used to take her own children to the playgroup 27-years-ago, which is now based at Gledholt Methodist Church.
Mrs Kenny is leaving to pursue her dream of travelling.
Vicky Horsfield has left after 21 years to join the auxiliary nursing bank.
She started working in the playroom with the children and worked her way up to become playgroup manager, which she has done for the last four years.
Mrs Willetts added: “Carole worked for the playgroup for a few years and is now a valued helper.
“Carole has been a big influence at playgroup and will be missed by all.
“Vicky is wished all the best by all who have known her and will be greatly missed.”
