CHILDREN put on hard hats to tour the building site which will ultimately become their new school.

Pupils trooped to the Moldgreen Community Primary School site at The Avenue to be shown around by builders.

They are being taught in temporary buildings on the edge of Ravensknowle Park while the £4.5m new school takes shape.

All 370 children made visits to the site, after representatives from construction firm Willmott Dixon came into the school to talk about their work.

Pupils took inspiration from the builders to build their own model of a mini-town.

School spokeswoman Lorraine Zito said: "The children have been very impressed.

"Willmott Dixon have been very good, having sponsored a painting competition and given £100 book tokens for the school library."

The school - which replaces ageing Victorian buildings on the same site in The Avenue - is due to be ready for use next May.
