A HUDDERSFIELD consultant has developed a special product to help patients with sore eyes.

Mr Teifi James, who works as a eye surgeon across Huddersfield, Elland and Halifax, has invented a heated bag inspired by years of treating people with eye conditions.

The bag - filled with flax seeds - is des- igned to be microwaved and applied warm to tired and irritable eyes.

Mr James, who lives in Halifax, said: "We tell people to put hot compressors on their eyes to treat a number of eye problems.

"People try to use hot basins of water but they don't tend to do it properly. This bag is designed to sink into all facial shapes and doesn't irritate the eye."

It could also be used for the most common eye complaint, blepharitis.

"Around 20% of the population will suffer from blepharitis, which is inflammation of the eyelid, at some stage in their life," he said.

The bags are manufactured by Emley- based National Wheatbag Company and are available at opticians across Huddersfield.
