ONE person had to be freed by firefighters and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance was called after a crash at Scammonden.

A black Ford Focus and a blue Mitsubishi Spacestar crashed on a bend on New Hey Road between O’Cot Lane and Worts Hill Lane close to the Nont Sarah’s pub at 4.30pm on Monday.

Firefighters had to cut the door away from the Focus to free the trapped driver.

He was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary along with his passenger and a woman and seven-year-old girl who were in the Mitsubishi.

The road was sealed off while the rescue took place.

Fire crews attended from Slaithwaite, Elland and Halifax.

The air ambulance was not needed as all the casualties were taken to HRI in three ambulances.
