AN elderly man is still critically ill in hospital after an alleged hit-and-run accident.
The 80-year-old was badly hurt when he was in collision with a car on New North Road in Heckmondwike at 9.45pm on Wednesday.
Police said yesterday that a 22-year-old Heckmondwike man had been arrested in connection with the incident and was being questioned.
The injured man was taken to Dewsbury District Hospital, where he was said to be still critical today.
New North Road, close to the Six Lane Ends junction with Leeds Road, was sealed off and remained shut for most of yesterday while police accident investigation experts worked at the scene.
