A COUPLE died after being hit by two cars on a stormy winter’s night in Sheffield, an inquest heard.

The drivers failed to see Sally and David Firth, from Crosland Moor, as they crossed a road on December 19 last year.

Sheffield Coroners’ Court heard how the couple were in the middle of Whitham Road in Broomhill.

They were hit by a car heading to town and then another heading in the opposite direction.

Mr Firth, aged 43, died at the scene while Mrs Firth, 41, was pronounced dead at hospital.

The couple had been on their way to a Psychic Supper at Broomhill Spiritualist Church at 6pm after parking on the opposite side of the busy street.

Assistant deputy coroner Donald Coutts-Wood returned a verdict of accidental death.

The Firths were both highly regarded for their charity work for Donna’s Dream House, a charity which helps terminally ill children and their families.

They were also both committed members of the Spiritualist church and Sally worked as a medium.

David was an extra on Coronation Street, The Bill, Inspector Frost and Where The Heart Is.

He became close friends with comedian Ken Dodd through his work in show business.
