BRIGHOUSE High School staged its annual awards night and recognised the achievements of its students.

Pupils who sat A-Level and GCSE exams this summer were greeted by speaker Mike Ward.

Mr Ward, director of the Actors' Workshop Youth Theatre, Halifax, who spoke at the first awards night at the school in 1985.

Since then the school has gone from strength to strength and has received an award as one of the top 300 schools in the country.

Headteacher Mr Graham Soles said: "It is encouraging and professionally satisfying for all in the school - pupils, teachers, learning support and ancillary staff and governors - to receive this national accolade."

Year 11 winners: Thomas Firth, Laura Iredale, Graham Beverley, Christopher Dyson, Matthew Ryding, Lisa Mount, Gary Hey, and, Holly Lynch.

Years 12 and 13 winners: Amy Lea, Carol Swain, Rebecca Heins, Gemma Steel, Thomas Bussey, Laura Driver, Anna Poulter, Sherber Khan, Aileen Bates, Tammy Mellor, Jonathan Hotham, and, Lisa Walsh.

Other winners: Rachel Naylor, Andrew May, Suzanne Pitcher, Leon Kay, Samantha Atkinson, Luke Scrimshaw, and, Rose Widdison.
