A HUDDERSFIELD man who has written some of Britain's best-known adverts has been honoured for his work.

Wayne Hanson won an award for the best socially responsible advert as part of the World Federation of Advertisers' 50th anniversary.

The federation has also just set up an advertising hall of fame to mark its golden jubilee - and Mr Hanson is in it.

Mr Hanson, 37, is a former pupil at King James's School in Almondbury and Batley Art College.

He now works for the Lowe advertising agency in Stockholm, Sweden, where he lives.

He said: "Advertising is a very rewarding career. It's great having an idea that can go from my layout pad to national television within three months.

"I get to work with extremely talented people - including an Oscar-winning director."

Mr Hanson added: "It's hard work flying first class, staying in five star hotels while shooting in exotic locations - but someone has to do it!"

He has won a clutch of awards during his career, including a gold award at Cannes in France, which is the advertising equivalent to an Oscar.

He won this for a poster advertising the sporty Vauxhall Tigra.

It showed a hitch-hiker in the south of France holding up a sign with Nice on it.

The car driver says "thanks" as he drives past.

Mr Hanson's best-known TV advert was for the Vauxhall Corsa. It featured Ruby Wax filling the car with men and the boot with shopping to show its space inside.

Zsa Zsa Gabor also popped up in this ad and Ruby said to her: "Not now Zsa Zsa; I'm shopping!"

Mr Hanson also did the advert featuring Ruby on a health farm, where she flees in her Vauxhall to escape colonic irrigation.

Mr Hanson has also written some of the Tesco supermarket adverts featuring Prunella Scales and Jane Horrocks.

In 2001 he wrote, produced and appeared in the award-winning cinema commercial for The Equal Opportunities Commission.

This cleverly showed the difference in pay between men and women - and won him his place in the hall of fame.

Mr Hanson has flown all over the world, from South Africa and India to Hungary and Germany, to shoot adverts for such big names as Flora margarine, Sure deodorant and Magnum ice cream.

He has worked with other well-known names, including comedian Harry Enfield and pop stars Cliff Richard and Louise.
