AN inquest was due to be held today into the death of a student killed in a hit and run tragedy.

Adam O’Toole died after he was struck by a blue Rover 200 car at a crossing at New Hey Road in Salendine Nook.

The incident was at 10.30am on Tuesday March 6 last year and repeated police appeals for witnesses, information and potential names for the driver have so far drawn a blank.

The car which hit him failed to stop.

Adam, 18, of Holmbridge, was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, but died from his injuries.

The car drove off towards the M62 and there was a sighting of a blue Rover 200 with accident damage driving towards Denshaw along the A640 near the Nont Sarah’s pub, near Scammonden.

The man driving the car was a white man in his 20s, with a thin face, prominent nose and long, dark brown unkempt hair.

The inquest is at Huddersfield Coroners’ Court. Detectives will reveal details about their inquiries to the coroner.
