A MAN who admitted being involved in the incident which claimed the life of student Adam O’Toole was due to be sentenced today.

Eighteen-year-old New College student Adam was killed when he was struck by a car on New Hey Road in Salendine Nook in March, 2007.

After a long police investigation officers arrested 25-year-old Brett Kingsley in February this year after a tip-off to police.

He has admitted his car was involved in the tragedy.

He later claimed he had been the victim of criminal damage to explain away the dents in his car and made a claim to the insurance company for repairs.

He has pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice over the false insurance claim.

The Crown Prosecution Service said there was not enough evidence to charge him with death by dangerous driving – despite a verdict of unlawful killing at Adam’s inquest in July, 2008.

Adam, of Woodhead Road in Holmbridge, was studying for a BTec diploma in sports studies at the college.

Judge Jonathan Rose has already warned Kingsley, of Cecil Street, Oldham, that he would most likely face a prison term.
