COUNCIL officers are planning to help people cut their fuel bills.

Drop-in sessions to advise residents on how they can reduce their fuel bills and save energy have been organised by Kirklees Council.

The council will be offering free and impartial advice on how to change energy provider, save energy in the home – and will also provide information on the free Kirklees Warm Zone insulation programme.

The Kirklees Warm Zone offers free cavity wall and loft insulation for all suitable properties in Kirklees, no matter what your age or income.

The programme also offers debt advice and the opportunity to have a benefit entitlement check.

People attending the sessions are asked to bring along their last four gas and electricity bills to make it easier to find the right energy tariff for them.

Sessions – starting today and continuing on to April – will be held as follows:

Today – Rawthorpe / Dalton Library and Information Centre, 23/25 Ridgeway, Dalton from 2pm to 6pm.

Friday – Golcar Library, Town End, Golcar from 2 to 5pm.

March 20 – Lindley Library and Information Centre, Lidget Street, Lindley from 1.30 to 4.30pm.

April 20 – Almondbury Library, Stocks Walk, Almondbury from 2 to 6pm.

April 24 – Birstall Library and Information Centre, Market Street, Birstall from 10am to 2pm.

April 27 – Birkby Fartown Library and Information Centre, Wasp Nest Road, Fartown, from 11am to 2pm.

Clr Molly Walton, cabinet member for environment, said:

“In these uncertain times it is especially important to get the best deal you can on gas and electricity bills and Kirklees Council officers can help you to do this.

“It can also ensure you are receiving any benefits to which you are entitled and order you free insulation through the Warm Zone scheme.

“This will not only make your home warmer but it will also reduce your heating bills so do make time to drop in at your local session.”
