A WOMAN had to be flown to hospital after breaking her leg.

The 70-year-old was walking through a field off Fairfield Lane in Hepworth when she suffered the injury just after 2pm yesterday.

Paramedics had trouble reaching her in an ambulance, so called in the Yorkshire Air Amblance which landed in the field.

The woman was airlifted to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

Malcolm Ibbotson, who lives on Fairfield Lane and took our picture, said: "I heard a noise and looked out of the window and saw the Yorkshire Air Ambulance landing in a field at the back of my house.

"An ambulance was also on the bridleway next to the field.

"I went upstairs and saw they were tending to someone."
