A GLIDING instructor with the Royal Canadian Air Force has made a nostalgic return to Huddersfield.

Capt Brian Howard called in to see his old air cadet squadron in the town.

He is now stationed at South Ontario Gliding Centre, near Niagara, but was an air cadet in Huddersfield from 1956 to 1961.

He met up with other squadron old boys, including retired Wing Commander Richard Beaumont, who joined at the same time.

The visit coincided with the announcement of the squad- ron's plans to mark its 65th anniversary with a dinner on February 8 next year.

All former staff and cadets are being invited and a form has been added to the squadron's website at www.59atc.org.uk for anyone wanting to register their interest in attending.

Capt Howard, who emigrated to Canada in 1973, said: "It's been wonderful to return to the squadron after all this time.

"I'm looking forward to coming for the February reunion and, hopefully, meeting up with more former cadets from my time here."
