CELEBRITY gardener and author Alan Titchmarsh has helped raise £8,000 for a children’s charity.

Alan, who hosts his self-titled chat show on ITV, signed his books and was guest speaker at the Forget Me Not Trust charity luncheon at Bagden Hall, Scissett, yesterday.

The event, attended by 230 guests, raised cash for the charity which plans to build a children’s hospice and respite home in Brackenhall.

The luncheon, organised by Forget me Not Trust support group Fixby Friends, included a raffle with prizes donated from local businesses.

The trust has so far raised over two-thirds of its £3m target.

In six months the trust hopes to start a ‘hospice at home’ care service to help youngsters in their own homes. Trust chairwoman Angela Tinker said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have Mr Titchmarsh. It was the Fixby Friends who organised it so thanks to them – they have done all the hard work.”
