I DON’T feel any older, says Alice Wynne.

The Rastrick woman yesterday celebrated her 107th birthday.

And she was looking forward to the party thrown in her honour, which included a Neil Diamond tribute act.

Alice, who lives at Lands House Care Home on New Hey Road, said: “I don’t feel like I’m 107, it doesn’t feel any different or any older.

“But they’re having a nice party for me, it’s been a long time since I’ve been to a party.”

Alice worked on a fruit and veg stall on Halifax market and also in a woollen mill.

“I worked on Halifax market for 14 years. I liked it, you get to know everybody and everything,” she added.

She had a sister and two brothers and was a captain in the Girl Guides.

She went on to marry her sweetheart Thomas Wynne, who lived a few doors down from her Clare Mount home. They had a son Tony, who died aged 47, while her husband passed away when she was 82.

Other family members have kept in contact. Her niece-in-law, Doreen Wynne, visits as did her late nephew Terence, and their children visit too.

Alice has lived at Lands House since she was 99 and says she enjoys the garden .

“I always liked gardening,” she said. “I had a garden and I go out here for some fresh air.”

Christine Payne, of Lands House, said: “She’s been singing ‘I’ve got the key to the door, never been 21 before’ all morning.

“She loves a party and she’ll have two birthday cakes, which she’ll love. She still goes out. She went into Brighouse last week and she once went back to the fruit and veg stall where she used to work.”

Alice is among the few in the area to reach their 107th birthday. Last August Eleanor Cuttell, of Edgerton, reached the milestone. She passed away in September.

It was a leap year.
