SCISSETT Baths has a new operations manager.

Alison Morris joins at an exciting time for the pool, which was won the Most Improved Facility award at Kirklees Active Leisure's first cele- bration event at the end of October.

The pool is also trying out a new children's corner - where youngsters and non-swimmers can be safely supervised - and a new Swimming Teachers' Association Award for children.

Mother-of-two Alison, of Almondbury, began her career as an attendant at Huddersfield Sports Centre.

Over the last 19 years she has worked at Dewsbury Sports Centre, Batley Baths and Recreation Centre and as manager of Leeds Road Playing Fields, Huddersfield.

She said: "Scissett Baths is an excellent community centre with a family environment, both with the staff and the customers.

"Winning the Most Improved Facility award was fantastic. But we want to continue that improvement and the good work of staff, so that our customers carry on enjoying the facilities."

Swimming pools have played an important part in Alison's life.

As a young attendant at Huddersfield Sports Centre she met Graham Morris, a diver from Prestatyn, north Wales, who travelled to Huddersfield's pool to train.

In 1988, he represented Great Britain at the Seoul Olympics - and a few weeks later they married.
