TRAINS from the past came chugging back into view at the weekend.

Families were able to see former resident locomotives of the Kirklees Light Railway in Clayton West.

The reunion – held as part of its fourth annual Gala Weekend – included Wroxham Broad from the Bure Valley Railway and Sian from the Windmill Farm Railway.

Kirklees Light Railway’s home fleet of locomotives, including a Kitson Meyer and Heisler, were also in action over the two-day event.

Stephen Ashton, of the railway’s volunteer support group, the Friends of the Kirklees Light Railway, said: “This is one of those what might have been events – all the locomotives attending were based on the railway in the past and moved elsewhere for various reasons.

“For one weekend our visitors got the chance to see what our locomotive fleet may have looked like if history was re-written.”

The weekend also featured a model exhibition, goods train demonstration and displays of vintage vehicles.

Kirklees Light Railway, at Park Mill Way, is open every weekend throughout the year.
