A COUPLE who met in a cafe on their lunch breaks are celebrating their golden wedding anniversary.
Shirley and Arthur Paul, from Almondbury, joined family at the weekend for a meal to celebrate 50 years of married life.
Shirley, 75, and Arthur, 77, are both from Aberdeen in Scotland.
The couple moved to Huddersfield when former builder Arthur started work constructing the new Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.
They have lived at their current house in Almondbury for 48 years.
The couple have two sons and a daughter, who sadly has died.
The proud grandparents have five granddaughters and one great-granddaughter.
Shirley, a former nursing assistant, said the secret to a long and happy marriage was to try not to argue.
She said: “We’ve never fought over money or children and we share everything.”
