Almondbury head teachers are urging  parents to step forward and have their say.

Leaders of the three schools involved in the proposed “super school” merger – Almondbury High, Almondbury Juniors and Greenside Infant and Nursery – have spoken out publicly to encourage families to take part in the consultation .

Janet Tolley, head of Almondbury High, claims that  parents’ opinions are “especially important”.

Jane Sargent, head of Almondbury CE (VA) Infant and Nursery School, which is not part of the merger, also supports this view.

The leaders’ comments follow a deputation on behalf of 130 parents to Kirklees Council  on Wednesday night and  the announcement of a public meeting from 10am to 11.30am today at Almondbury Methodist Church, organised by  MP Barry Sheerman.

Mrs Tolley  said: “We very much support the consultation. It’s absolutely right that members of the local community have a chance to air their views and to explain why they oppose or support the proposals.

“Parental input is especially important and, if the process moves forward, we will work with the local authority to look into any issues or concerns that are raised. Schools in Almondbury already work in partnership and this will continue.

“It’s in the best interests of the local community that everyone talks to the schools, talks to the LA and uses this chance to express an opinion.

“I believe an all-through school is the best option for the community as we look ahead to providing the best possible standards for current and future pupils.

“Regardless of the different opinions that people will have, ultimately we all share the same objective – high standards of education provision.”

Kathy McCauley, head of Greenside Infant and Nursery School , said: “We are keen for as many parents as possible to take part in discussions. We will be very interested to see the range of responses that come through the consultation process.”

Heather Wood, head of Almondbury Junior School, said: “The consultation process is an opportunity for all to have their say and to influence how this project will be taken forward into the future.

“Nationally, education is changing dramatically. It is important that everyone has a chance to be part of any educational developments in their community.”

Jane Sargent, head of Almondbury CE (VA) Infant and Nursery School, added: “The consultation is a welcome opportunity for all parents to take part in discussions about the proposed changes.”

Kirklees Council has just announced that a full public consultation will start in early November on the proposal to build a primary school in the grounds of Royds Hall High School , Paddock.
