A GROUP of walkers are setting out on a gruelling challenge to raise funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Amy Senior, 21, of Birkby is currently studying Primary School Teaching at Manchester Metropolitan College and along with friends is to take on the Three Peaks Challenge.

Later this month they’ll be climbing Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in the Lake District and Snowdon in North Wales in 24 hours.

Amy’s father Ian has been struck with the muscle wasting disease, which has affected his ability to speak.

The charity however has helped with an iPhone speech synthesiser application and Amy is raising funds to return the favour.

She will be joined by friends Alice Baker, Liam Duffy, Anna Ballard and Emily Cassidy, and dad Ian will join them for Snowdon.

Amy said: “We’ve got a designated driver who will take us to the peaks and sleep while we climb. Hopefully we will be able to sleep while we’re driven.

“We’ll start at Ben Nevis at 5pm in the evening, get to Scafell Pike as the sun rises and then do Snowdon in the afternoon.”
