THE new Mayor of Kirklees today said: "Come along and enjoy my Civic Sunday."

And there's a bonus - tea and buns after the church service.

Clr Donald Firth stages the event at Huddersfield Parish Church at 2.30pm on Sunday.

The theme of the Civic Sunday is Our Common Life Together.

The service will be led by the Vicar of Huddersfield, the Rev Catherine Ogle.

After the service tea and cakes will be served on the Piazza, to mark the Queen's 80th birthday.

Representatives of different faiths will be at the service.

Clr Firth said: "Anyone, whatever their beliefs, is welcome to join us.

"I do hope they will feel able to do so".

The service will also involve local school children.

It will be a family occasion as well, with young people and people from all sections of the community taking part.

Those attending are asked to make their way to the church to be seated for 2.20pm.
