HONLEY Wood is set for a £75,000 revamp.

The improvements, to be paid for by conservation group Natural England and Kirklees Council, will include a new 150m footpath, a new way-marked circular walk and upgrades to existing paths.

There will also be an archaeological survey and educational activities.

The 50-hectare wood is owned by Johnsons Wellfield Quarries.

John Myers, of Johnsons’ owners Myers Group, said: “We care about the local community and the quality of the environment in which our quarrying operations and manufacture of natural stone products take place.

“We have strong connections with many community groups in and around the district and are pleased to be associated with this project.”

It is part of the Woodlands Way scheme, led by Huddersfield organisation White Rose Forest to increase community involvement in woodlands.
