PEERS and politicians will be pitching their cricketing skills against a star-studded team at Shepley next Friday.

TV presenter Harry Gration, footballer Andy Booth and former England players Richard Blakey, Arnie Sidebottom and Jim Love are among the line-up for the Shepley Invitation XI.

The match, which will be held at 6.30pm at Shepley Cricket Club, Marsh Lane, has been organised by Dewsbury MP Simon Reevell. All proceeds will be donated to Help for Heroes and The Meningitis Trust.

In addition to the match, there will be a charity auction where people can bid for a host of unique items. These include a signed Yorkshire cricket bat, a Lords & Commons Cricket Club playing shirt signed by the Prime Minister David Cameron and a signed Huddersfield Giants home shirt.

Other offers under the hammer are a meal and night’s B&B for two at the 3 Acres Inn, an Elland Brewery trip and two tickets to a Yorkshire CB40 match at Headingley.

Mr Reevell said: “Being an MP gives me the opportunity to organise events like this, which will hopefully raise a lot of money for a couple of very deserving charities.

“I look forward to what I hope will be a cracking game of cricket and an excellent evening’s entertainment and I hope as many people as possible will come and join us”.
