A SOCCER fan from Huddersfield wants a slice of World Cup glory.

Andy Mudd hopes his football song will get the fans right behind the England team and become the "people's anthem" in Germany.

The 37-year-old musician and producer believes The Lions Roar could be this year's hit song.

Andy, who hails from Dalton but is now based at The Music Factory in Blackpool, said: "It's a football song for England.

"We're trying to make it the people's anthem and we believe that it's on a par, if not better than Three Lions."

Andy is the lead singer and the song is performed by a band called Fever Pitch.

He continues: "It was written by myself and a friend of mine called Barry Sullivan.

"We thought we'd write a song for the last World Cup in Japan but we left it too late and it wasn't that good.

"We penned this song last year and we wanted to do a song that would capture people's imagination and inspire the England football team.

"I think it will inspire the England team to victory."

He said the track was really uplifting and avoided the usual footie song clichés - there's no John Barnes rap for example.

"Football songs have all gone down the same route - commentary, air horns, crowd noises, whereas this is very musical.

"It's got a great hook to it and lyrics. The lyrics I think are brilliant and it's just an uplifting tune.

"It's got every ingredient for a football song."

Every football tournament brings with it a deluge of related musical offerings ranging in quality.

Leeds band the Kaiser Chiefs were rumoured to be releasing this year's official World Cup song.

But Andy said he'd heard the band had pulled out. "Nothing's been confirmed as the official one.

"There have been rumours going round that Peter Kay is supposed to be doing an official one but it's all rumours.

"I have heard a few of the unofficial tracks over the internet and up to now, from what I've heard, there's no real competition for us."

As for England's chances at this year's tournament Andy added: "I think we have got a good enough squad to actually win the World the Cup this year and we have probably the best chance of winning it since 1966."

The words to spur on England's players...

ROONEY'S running with the ball

Come on England one and all

You'll hear those mighty lions roar

We're England, England, England

Hold your flags up high and proud

The red cross sails above the crowd

A sea of people sing out loud

We're England, England, England

The world's a stage where we belong

In times like these we must stand strong

We'll seize the day and bring it home

To England

66 still lingers on

9 world cups have come and gone

But this time round we're just too strong

We're England

Rooney's running with the ball

Come on England one and all

You'll hear those mighty lions roar

We're England, England ,England

Hold your flags up high and proud

The red cross sails above the crowd

A sea of people sing out loud

We're England, England, England

So beat those drums we're on our way

Olympic stadium, judgement day

No need to hope, no need to pray

We're England

We'll walk on to that field of green

Hand on heart, God Save the Queen

One chance, One cup, one team, one

dream

We're England

Rooney's running with the ball

Come on England one and all

You'll hear those mighty lions roar

We're England, England, England

Hold your flags up high and proud

The red cross sails above the crowd

A sea of people sing out loud

We're England, England, England

Na Na Na Na Na Na Na

Na Na Na Na Na Na Na

Na Na Na Na Na Na Na

We're England, England, England

We're England, England, England

We're England...England...England
