A SONGWRITER who hopes to inspire the England team in soccer's World Cup has this message for Huddersfield people: Please vote for us!

The Examiner recently featured the story of former Dalton man Andy Mudd, who has penned what he hopes will become `the people's anthem' in Germany.

The musician/producer, now based in Blackpool, has recorded The Lions Roar with his band, Fever Pitch.

Brighouse band Embrace have been chosen to record the official England World Cup song by the Football Association. Their song will be called World At Your Feet

Now The Lions Roar has made it into a national newspaper's final 32 - and Andy says the band needs your votes.

He added: "People have listened to the song and they like it. We're trying to make this the people's anthem.

"I'm a home-grown boy first and foremost and we need local support.

"So, to everybody that we know in Huddersfield - and people we don't know who like the song - we say your vote would be much appreciated."

The Sun newspaper is organising the competition and all the songs have been split up, like in the World Cup groupings.

Andy says: "Our group is like England's group in the actual World Cup. We're expected to go through I would have thought.

"I can't really see any competition from the group. I'm quietly confident we'll get through the group stage."

The group saw an advert in the paper calling on members of the public to send in their tracks.

Andy added: "I think it's great we've got this far. They've heard it and the panel of experts obviously like it, otherwise they wouldn't have put us in the last 32."
