ANGRY MP Barry Sheerman today vowed to seek further action over a land management company.

He is furious that London-based Estates and Management have again sent out extra bills to Huddersfield people - despite promises they would not.

Now Mr Sheerman is planning to raise the matter in the Commons next week. He will also seek help from legal experts.

Mr Sheerman, the Labour MP for Huddersfield, said: "This is the completely unacceptable face of capitalism.

"This company is virtually intimidating often vulnerable people."

The company owns the freeholds and leases of many Huddersfield homes and land sites, having bought them from Kirklees Council.

It has caused widespread anger this month by sending out invoices for allegedly unpaid bills, with an administration charge for £20 - even though the original bill had not been received.

Dozens of people have contacted the Examiner and the advice has been to ignore the bill and send off the original rent - sometimes as low as 92p.

Mr Sheerman was instrumental in pushing for new legislation to curb the practice last year, but it has not yet come into force.

He said: "I will try to find out if what this company is doing is illegal.

"I will be tabling a Commons motion next week.

"This company has bought up packages of leases from all over the country and the people who own it are making capital out of a system that is wrong."
