KIRKLEES College’s specialist animal care and countryside management centre opened its doors to the public for a Christmas fair.

Visitors got the chance to see over 70 species at the state-of-the-art centre at Taylor Hill.

Children visited Santa in his grotto and took part in activities and there was also a tombola, cake stall, raffles and a jewellery stall.

Money raised from the event will contribute towards an academic trip to South Africa for students next year.

Charlotte Blay, an animal care lecturer at the Kirklees College, said: “It’s great to open the centre up to the public.

“It’s a fantastic place for families to visit and people get a lot from visiting the animals and seeing what we do at Taylor Hill.

“It’s a great opportunity for students to showcase what they learn.

“The visit to South Africa is an essential part of the animal care courses.

“The funds raised will be put to great use and help students with their learning”.
