THERE was a record number of entries for the Huddersfield RSPCA's annual horse show, held in Greenhead Park on Saturday.
There were more than 300 entries covering 38 classes, not only from Kirklees but from Sheffield, Barnsley, Bradford, Halifax, and Diggle in Lancashire.
The event was opened by the Deputy Mayor of Kirklees, Clr Donald Firth, who also presented some of the trophies.
The Best Rider in Show award was won by Julie Everett from Barnsley on Niconova. The Mountain and Moorland Champion award went to Andrew Mitchell and Josh Hampson from Dewsbury with Hendre Lowi.
Kirklees Culture and Leisure Services Department sponsored rosettes for the classes and vets Donaldson and Partners, who have surgeries in Huddersfield and Mirfield, were the main show sponsors.
Show secretary Sue Bray said: "Proceeds of the show will be spent on local animal welfare including neutering and microchipping of pets and assistance with veterinary care for people on low income. The aim of the branch is to alleviate suffering by better knowledge of animal needs.
"It was a long day but well worth it."
