A HUDDERSFIELD pub serves some of Yorkshire’s best cider; and that’s official.
The Rat and Ratchet on Chapel Hill has been declared runner-up in the Campaign for Real Ale’s Yorkshire Cider Pub of the Year competition.
Jubilant staff were presented with their award by Camra officials.
Real cider is made from freshly pressed apple juice served without artificial gas and with only minimal adjustments.
This was the second Camra award for The Rat and Ratchet, which is now owned by Ossett Brewery.
In June it was named the 2008 Huddersfield Pub of the Year.
Licensee Sam Birkhead said he was amazed and honoured to pick up the award.
He added: “The atmosphere and feeling in any pub comes directly from the people standing behind the bar and more importantly the customers.’’
