A PARROT is on the loose in Meltham.

Sharon Niven saw a grey parrot with a white face fluttering among the trees near her home at Woodlands, Holmfirth Road, yesterday.

She said: "I heard it during the night, making a high-pitched screech. It didn't sound like any other bird we get around here. This morning it was flying low between my house and Meltham Bank Buildings across the road."

Mrs Niven added: "The bird appears tame, but I couldn't catch it."

The appearance of the exotic bird follows an incident last week, when a macaw went missing from Holmfirth.

The bird was found and returned to its owner the next day.
