THE man who died after being hit by a train in Mirfield was a 20-year-old from Huddersfield.

The tragedy happened at Mirfield railway station at 9.20pm on Wednesday.

Relatives of the dead man are still being informed and he has not yet been named.

Sgt Mick Burgess, of British Transport Police said: “We are appealing for any information after the man was killed by a Scarborough to Liverpool TransPennine Express train.

“I would urge anyone who was in or around the area on Wednesday evening to contact us if they saw anything or have any information that may help us.’’
