THE Salvation Army has launched its annual appeal to help people who need it most.

Huddersfield and Mirfield branches are asking people to give up just an hour to help them transform people's lives.

They need volunteers to help deliver envelopes through letterboxes so people can dig deep and give generously.

Captain Ernie Huby, of the Huddersfield branch, said: "People in Mirfield and Huddersfield are so generous and caring and I wish to thank them for their generosity in advance.

"Every donation really does count, as even for a large organisation like The Salvation Army we can only do our work with the generous support of the public.

"So please look out for the blue envelope coming through your letterbox in the next few weeks and if you see us out and about in the centre of Huddersfield , please dig deep in your pockets.

"Also if you can spare just an hour of your time to deliver and collect envelopes we would love to hear from you."

Nationally The Salvation Army is aiming to raise more than £3m from this year's appeal.
