A D-DAY parade to honour war veterans is looking for help.

Deighton Working Men’s Club is organising a charity march from Deighton Community Centre, Deighton Road, to the club on June 6.

The event will raise cash for the Royal British Legion.

A 1934 AC Regent double-decker bus has been booked for the 1940s themed parade, where participants are encouraged to wear period dress.

The march will be followed by a family fun afternoon at the club, including 1940s music, a Normandy landings video, tombola, children’s games and raffle.

Now organisers are looking for local organisations to get involved.

Dave MacGregor of Deighton WMC said: “We were going to have a 1940s dance the week before, but we spotted in the Examiner that the Government wasn’t doing much for D-Day veterans so we got in touch with the British Legion.

“We want organisations to take part in the parade.

“We want people to dress in 1940s period clothing.

“Perhaps we can get some vintage vehicles.”
