A UNIQUE tribute to a shot policewoman could become a permanent memorial to her.

But police do not know who has made it and have urged the artist to come forward.

The artwork - a 7ft tall structure made of wooden canes and paper - was made in memory of the late Pc Sharon Beshenivsky and left with floral tributes at the scene of her shooting in Morley Street, Bradford city centre, on November 18.

Pc Beshenivsky, 38, of Bradford, was shot as she investigated a robbery at a travel agent's. Her colleague Pc Teresa Milburn, 37, of Birstall, was seriously injured in the same incident.

The weather has spoiled the artwork, which is now being kept at Bradford Central Police Station, and police would like whoever made it to restore it so it can be put on permanent display at Bradford's new police station in Nelson Street, which is due to open next spring.

Chief Insp Jason Galvin, of Bradford South Police management team, said: "The piece shows doves and stars and whoever made it put a lot of feeling into it.

"We want to repair it so we can keep it as a lasting and fitting tribute to Sharon in our new station. Everyone at the station is still coming to terms with what happened on November 18 and emotional healing is a slow process.

"We are looking towards the funeral as a focus for our grief, but also a celebration of Sharon's life." It will take place early next year.

The artist should call Chief Insp Galvin via the helpdesk at Bradford Central Police Station on 01274 376459.
