THREE men are alleged to have made obscene gestures to people while driving up and down a busy main road.

Police have appealed for information about the incident involving occupants of a silver Rover car at New Hey Road and Westbourne Road, between Marsh and Oakes, at around 4pm on Saturday.

At one point they are said to have gestured at people on a bus close to the Bay Horse roundabout.

The car was stopped at Crosland Road and three men were arrested.

The three - a 23- year-old from Birkby, a 21-year-old from Elland and a 20-year-old from Longwood - were detained on suspicion of theft, possessing offensive weapons and public order offences.

They have been released on police bail until July 15.
