PUBLIC help is needed to maintain a wild meadow at Slaithwaite.

Mick Smith, officer for the River Colne Project, is appealing for people to help him maintain the wildflower meadow at land near Upper Mills factory.

Volunteers for the project - run by the Colne Valley Trust - created the meadow last May.

But it will not survive unless regular maintenance is carried out to remove fast-growing grasses from between the flowers.

To help ensure the future of the meadow, Mr Smith is holding a "seed- gathering" between 2pm and 4pm on Sunday, October 10.

People will be asked to help collect seeds from the flowers.

The meadow will then be cut and the seeds will be re-sown for next year. The event links in with the Tree Council's National Seed-Gathering Sunday.

Mr Smith said: "The event is a wonderful opportunity for anyone who would like to be a part of community conservation to do so."

Anyone who would like to help should contact him on 01484 847798 or mick@cvt.org.uk

Places must be booked.
