CHURCHES in Yorkshire are being asked to help bring the world's starving children back to health this Christmas.

The United Nation's Children's Fund (Unicef) wants people to join its Jar of Grace Appeal.

They are being urged to set aside a special jar in which they can drop a coin when they say Grace before meals, to help prevent the deaths of millions of children each year from malnutrition.

Each day 15,000 children die from malnutrition.

Money raised by the appeal will help buy emergency therapeutic supplies, vitamin A supplements and resources for mobile feeding centres.

Louis Coles, fundraising manager for the Yorkshire region, said: "It's a joy to see a life turned around, and all for the cost of £1 in someone's Jar of Grace.

"Already many Yorkshire churches have registered to take part and I hope that congregations across Yorkshire will contact Unicef to take part in the appeal this Advent."
