Panic over, everybody.

Felix the Huddersfield Station Cat is NOT moving to Leeds Station.

The story was the Examiner’s contribution to this year’s round of April Fool’s jokes. So did you fall for it?

Felix said: “Of course I wouldn’t dream of leaving my purrfect job here at Huddersfield Railway Station.

“I have many commuter friends both here and in Leeds - whilst Leeds is a lovely city I simply could not leave my lovely home.

“I hope my friends will see the funny side, otherwise my treats intake will reduce dramatically.”

Although many of you noticed the clue hidden in the story, it seems TransPennine Express spokeswoman April Furl was not enough to get past some.

Facebook user Gavin Hudson commented: “This is bigger transfer news than Messi and Ronaldo swapping teams.”

Some of Felix’s overseas friends were also slow to catch onto the prank, although were relieved to find the moggy would be sticking around.

Australian Felix fan Kristie Atkinson said: “Its [sic] not fair as Huddersfield is her home. She has feelings and shouldn’t be moved around like a piece of property! Let the Leeds station adopt their own cat.”

Meanwhile, the people of Huddersfield were not spared April Fools jokes from others.

Holmfirth Police announced they would be welcoming “Rapid Response Rabbits” to their team, with hutches fitted inside police cars.

Inspector “Roger Lapin” from the WYP SSMU (Special Small Mammals Unit) said: “Rabbits are scientifically proven to be able to sniff out drugs as they have 100 million olfactory receptor cells, and they can run very quickly, making short work of chasing suspects.”

The Huddersfield Town Foundation also had you fooled, claiming they would be painting the John Smith’s Stadium’s touchlines pink for their game against Birmingham City.

Fundraising Manager Mandy Taylor explained: “Pink has very much become the colour of the charity for this year’s Town Foundation game thanks to the fantastic shirts initiative.”
