A GANG of men armed with a claw hammer and sledgehammer struck in Golcar.

They forced their way into a house and threatened the terrified occupants.

Police were called to the house in Town End, Golcar, after the aggravated burglary in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A 21-year-old man was at home with his girlfriend and two friends when the armed men smashed their way through the front door with a sledgehammer.

The three men threatened the occupants with the sledgehammer and a claw hammer. The 21-year-old was then punched in the face before the intruders removed items from the property.

The incident has shocked Golcar shop owners who work just yards from where the incident took place.

One shopkeeper told the Examiner: “My friend was burgled in Long Lane three weeks ago and I know of others but I hadn’t heard about this one in Town End.

“It does seem with Christmas coming people are getting more and more desperate.”

The thieves stole an Acer Laptop, Nikon camera, a computer hard drive and an Armani watch.

One of the suspects was white, in his late 20s, around 6ft tall and stocky. He was bald with dark eyes, stubble and wore a blue or grey T-shirt and black gloves. He also had tattoos on both upper arms.

A second suspect was also white, in his early 20s and baby-faced. He was slim with a big nose and wore a hooded top with the hood pulled tight around his face.

The third suspect was black, in his early 20s and around 5ft 7in tall. He was of stocky build and dressed in dark clothing.

Inquiries into the incident are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Huddersfield CID on non-emergency line 101.
