A GANG of masked men have raided a landmark rural pub.
The four balaclava-clad raiders entered The Huntsman at Greenfield Road – high on the moors above Holmfirth at about 4.10am today.
They are believed to have been confronted by a couple at the pub after they got in.
It is not clear if they escaped with anything.
An ambulance was called, but the couple are not believed to have been hurt during their ordeal.
Detectives from Kirklees CID were at the scene early today.
The West Yorkshire Police helicopter flew over the moor and Holme Valley in the immediate aftermath of the raid.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “The man heard banging and was confronted by the gang when he went to investigate the noise.
“We need to speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area last night.
“Were the gang hanging around beforehand? Did anyone see a vehicle loitering in the area?’’
The Huntsman is a popular wedding venue and also has 15 en suite bedrooms.
