A LOCKWOOD betting office has been hit by armed robbers for the second time in just four weeks.

Jack Pearson’s office on Swan Lane was raided just before 6pm on Thursday when a man wearing dark glasses and a big black coat held staff at gunpoint.

The man – aged about 20 – walked into the office holding what appeared to be a handgun and then made-off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The raid is the latest in a recent spate of armed robberies at betting offices across Huddersfield.

The same Lockwood bookies was raided on September 19 when robbers struck twice in two hours, also hitting another bookmakers in Birkby.

Then another Jack Pearson’s office was again targeted on October 3 when two masked men burst into the premises on Blackmoorfoot Road, Crosland Moor, but fled empty-handed.

Today police appealed for any witnesses to the most recent robbery in Lockwood to come forward with information.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “We are appealing for witnesses following a robbery just before 6pm at a business premises on Swan Lane in Lockwood.

“A man entered the building with what was believed to be a handgun and made off with a quantity of cash.

“Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who was in the area at the time is asked to contact us.”

The man is described as 5ft 8in, mixed race, was wearing dark glasses and a big black coat.
