A HUDDERSFIELD man was arrested after a 24-year-old man was critically injured in a city centre fracas.

The man suffered stab wounds in the centre of Wakefield just after 3.30am on Saturday. When police arrived a large crowd had gathered.

Bottles were thrown at officers and police closed several clubs in the area as they dispersed the crowds.

The injured man was taken to Pinderfields Hospital where his condition has improved but is still serious.

The 20-year-old Huddersfield man was arrested on suspicion of wounding, but was later released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Two other people arrested in connection with the incident were also released on bail.
