A man faces crown court after appearing in court charged with possessing a knife in Huddersfield town centre.

Damien Parchment, 35, was arrested from Viaduct Street in the town on June 28.

He was originally arrested for being drunk and disorderly and transported to Dewsbury Police Station, prosecutor Alex Bozman told Kirklees magistrates.

He was taken to the Aldams Road station where he was searched and allegedly found to have a lock knife in his shorts pocket.

Parchment denies a charge of possessing a bladed article in a public place.

Magistrates declined jurisdiction of the case and sent Parchment to Leeds Crown Court.

He will first appear there on October 15.

Magistrates told Parchment, of Bishop's Court in Berry Brow, that he will be subject to unconditional bail in the meantime.
