A WOMAN returned from Lithuania when she realised police were looking for her – and was then arrested.

Jelena Bogdanovic, 22, had been charged with stealing from Boots in Huddersfield last November.

She returned to her home in Lithuania a short time later after her mother became ill.

Huddersfield magistrates dealt with the case yesterday, even though Bogdanovic could not remember where she was staying with relatives in recent days in Huddersfield.

She was given a conditional discharge after admitting stealing a £23 perfume and body cream gift set from Boots last November 19 as a present for her niece.

Bogdanovic told police: “Something came over me and it happened.

“I did a bad thing. It was wrong to take it and I’m very sorry.’’

Her solicitor, Charles Ainley, said: “She’s made it clear to me she does not intend to find herself in court or in a police station again.’’

Speaking through an interpreter Bogdanovic told the magistrates: “I thank you from the bottom of my heart and give you my word that this will not happen again.’’

She has two cautions for similar offences.
