A CAR was badly damaged in a firebomb attack.

Arsonists smashed a window on the Mercedes in Filbert Street, Birkby, at 11.10pm yesterday and hurled three small plastic pop bottles containing petrol inside.

They also set fire to paper.

The fire badly damaged the inside of the car, but there was still some petrol in the bottles when firefighters arrived.

Sub-officer Simon Dennett, of Huddersfield fire station, said: "People living in the street heard a bang, then saw flames coming out of the window.

"The interior, including the seats and dashboard, were badly damaged."
