ARSONISTS attacked a respite centre for people with disabilities in Rastrick last night.

The thugs broke windows at Thornhill Grange on Hanson Street before 11.25am.

They are then believed to have put flaming material through one of the broken windows to start the blaze.

Fire crews from Brighouse and Elland attended and managed to control and contain the blaze in one room.

The 29-bedroom Thornhill Grange has been closed as a full-time nursing home for more than three years. Its closure, announced in 2001, was due to the fact it would have cost up to £500,000 to bring it up to modern standards.

Firefighters then doused the blaze and cleared smoke from the building with powerful fans.

Police are now investigating the incident.
