The intruders stole number plates from the car and a pick-up truck before setting them on fire at the Citroen Dixon Garage at Bradford Road, Batley, at 6.40am on Monday.

The fires destroyed both vehicles and damaged a wall. The total cost of the damage has been put at £24,000.

The cars destroyed were a Citroen C4 and a Nissan Cabstar pick-up.

The registration plates stolen were YH06 KDG and FY06 JXP.

Det Con Russ Conlon, of Kirklees CID intelligence unit, said: "Has anyone seen these registration plates since or have they now been put on to other vehicles.

"We would also like to hear from anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in that area early on Monday morning."
