A HUSBAND and wife have an exhibition of their paintings in Huddersfield.

Forty pieces of work by Maurice and Margaret Lockwood are on display at the Sports Centre until July 17.

The couple, of Heys Road, Thongsbridge, are members of Huddersfield Arts Society and Brighouse Art Circle.

Mr Lockwood, 83, started painting about 10 years ago, when he retired after a career in architecture.

He works mainly in pastels and watercolour, painting mainly landscapes from places the couple visit on holiday, such as the Lake District, Cornwall and Yorkshire.

He also enjoys pencil sketching on site, usually old farm buildings, farms and bridges.

He exhibits regularly with the British Society of Painters and the British Watercolour Society at the Winter Gardens in Ilkley.

Mrs Lockwood started painting nine years ago. She is mainly self-taught from books and videos and watching demonstrations.

Most of her work is landscapes in pastels, but she also paints flowers in watercolour. She exhibits locally and also in Ilkley.
